The HBCU Presidents’ Summit on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and held on the March 13 – 15. The summit brought together academic, government, and corporate leaders to discuss expanding the success of STEM at HBCUs.
Faculty from US institutions made a 8 day trek through Australia to visit seven universities. The goal was to increase opportunities for STEM students to study abroad. Universities visited included RMIT, University of Melbourne, and Monash University in Melbourne; University of New South Wales and University of Sydney in Sydney; and University of Queensland in Brisbane. Two past members of the LLW Drug Design Group are realizing their dreams. Both Serina and James are examples of the focused dedication needed to succeed. Serina will be attending Georgetown and James will be attending Meharry.
The PKAL Summer Leadership Institute 2015 offered a time for quiet reflection and leadership development. I enjoyed being a mentor and facilitator at the event. The participants were passionate about their personal growth as leader and the initiatives proposed for their respective campuses. The institute was held at the Claggett Center.
