Understanding Interventions that Broaden Participation in the Chemistry Enterprise
Understanding Interventions (UI) that Broaden Participation in Science Careers is an initiative that seeks to advance outcomes of efforts that increase diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM research, education, and careers through the expansion and dissemination of a relevant body of knowledge, and facilitate its implementation of this information in practice, policy, training, and professional development. The symposium will expand upon the UI’s mission by showcasing efforts from scholars and practitioners in the chemistry enterprise. Talks will be invited that showcase effective strategies from successful STEM intervention programs, present results from empirical research studies, and synthesize the translation of research findings into practice on STEM learning, undergraduate research, graduate education, and student retention. Most significantly, the symposium will demonstrate the relevance of adopting broad STEM interventions for implementation in the chemistry context.
