Faculty Resource Network – 2016

Faculty from Biology and Chemistry & Biochemistry collaborated on the breakout session entitle, “Engineering success of diverse students through personalized and interactive curriculum.”  Talks were presented that examined pedagogical approaches in the biology and chemistry curriculums involving personalization of key curricular pieces and those utilized to target students’ cognitive development as scientific thinkers. Implementation and outcomes of each approach were also presented.

NSF IUSE Award

Spelman chemist receives $1,166,831 NSF award to study students’ self-regulated engagement Dr. Leyte Winfield, Associate Professor of Organic Chemistry, Chair of Chemistry and Biochemistry, and Interim Associate Provost of Research, has been awarded a three-year grant through the National Science Foundation’s Improving Undergraduate STEM Education: Education and Human Resources (IUSE: EHR) Program in the amount of $1,166,831. Morgann and Nadege take to the Hill to discuss the importance of undergraduate research, the significance of Spelman College, and the outcomes of their work. They will also advocate for increased federal funding for research and support for undergraduate training programs.
