Dr. Rosetta Ross pioneered scholarly work on religion and Black women’s activism in the U.S. civil rights movement.

Rosetta was an early proponent of womanist theology. She presented as a panelist for the 1990 American Academy of Religion’s (AAR) Womanist Approaches to Religion and Society Group session and led a workshop during the first pre-AAR Womanist In-gathering in Philadelphia that celebrated womanist pedagogies.
