We extend our sincerest thanks to everyone who stopped by to help with the clean-out of the Science Center’s basement storage room. When there’s a job to be done, the Spelman community rolls up its sleeves and works together!
From the Office of Research Resources, Jonnny Rudolph served as point-person, coordinating the participation of other departments.
Stacy Cephas, along with Jonnny, did the bulk of the heavy lifting, as well as advising on the disposition of scientific instrumentation.
Angie Taylor manned the phones, coordinating help from all of the academic departments and even the bookstore, as well as keeping the volunteers fed and cared for all day.
Student assistant Alexis Roberson came back after final exams to pitch in and kept us all in good spirits.
Margaret Farrow, Vida Aquino, Anitra Hill and Lakesha Stevenson poured through boxes and boxes of files to determine which met record-retention guidelines and which could be shredded.
From Spelman Technology Services (STS), Joe Hardy, Malik Watler, Rashad McCord, Cedric Curne and Darrell Palmes quickly and efficiently relocated STS equipment.
From the Spelman Archives, Holly Smith and Kassandra Ware recovered all materials with historic value for the college.
From FMS, Sara Powell and Mike Walsh coordinated the dumpster delivery and advised on the disposition of furniture and light fixtures.
Many thanks to Science Center department administrators Shawanis Porter, Sharonda Johnson, Cheryl Hodge, Pam Stegall and Demika Taylor who came by to advise on the disposition of their area’s materials.
Faculty who stopped by to help out included Virgil Payne, Maira Goytia, Peter Chen, Yonas Tekle, Mark Maloney, Steve Kioko, Michael Burns-Karin and Jeff Ehme. Special thanks go to Gene McGinnis who took care to examine all of the lab supplies and equipment and helped us unlock some of the ornery file cabinets.
In January ORR will install shelving in this space for the storage of lab supplies, as well as accommodating the storage needs of the academic departments and STS.
