Faculty Resource Network – 2016

Faculty from Biology and Chemistry & Biochemistry collaborated on the breakout session entitle, “Engineering success of diverse students through personalized and interactive curriculum.”  Talks were presented that examined pedagogical approaches in the biology and chemistry curriculums involving personalization of key curricular pieces and those utilized to target students’ cognitive development as scientific thinkers. Implementation and outcomes of each approach were also presented.

Spelman chemist receives $1,166,831 NSF award to study students’ self-regulated engagement Dr. Leyte Winfield, Associate Professor of Organic Chemistry, Chair of Chemistry and Biochemistry, and Interim Associate Provost of Research, has been awarded a three-year grant through the National Science Foundation’s Improving Undergraduate STEM Education: Education and Human Resources (IUSE: EHR) Program in the amount of $1,166,831. Sasha earned her MSPH from Meharry University and her MS in Oral Health Science at Boston College.  She has been accepted to Dental programs at Boston College and Howard University.  She worked in the lab in 2008.

They will also advocate for increased federal funding for research and support for undergraduate training programs.
